Big Things Have Small Beginnings

CREATING A NEW PATHWAY TO HOMEOWNERSHIP AND JOB OPPORTUNITIES

Listening and responding to the needs of the people. Embracing an innovative and holistic mindset. Establishing relationships with vendors, dealers, and shippers. Becoming a certified general contractor with a residential endorsement and hiring local labor. Coaching residents through the lending process and taking advantage of all funding sources. Acting as a conduit between the residents and vendors to ensure they are treated with respect and receive the best possible deal. These small beginnings at CVRF are leading toward real, big improvements for our communities in terms of housing, jobs, and autonomy.

At Coastal Villages we are thinking outside of the box to address our region’s two greatest needs: providing qualified buyers access to affordable, scalable, and energy-efficient homes, and offering jobs to our residents willing to help build these homes. We recognize the need for homes is the end game and the journey of navigating the lending process is as equally empowering for our residents. The Tiny House program is about more than housing development. This is about residents achieving financial literacy and economic independence. This is about training and hiring our residents to build homes for residents. This is about housing security and job opportunities. This is about constantly evolving and increasing the value in our communities from all angles. This is about the health, well-being, and self-determination of our people.

BREAKING NEW GROUND FOR SELF-DETERMINATION

Though building homes in rural Alaska is logistically challenging and expensive, we initially built a pilot house to prove it's possible. As we continually build new homes for residents, more jobs are being created in the community, and more residents realize their homeownership dreams.
“The Tiny House Project gave me the opportunity to move out of my parent’s house and into my own. It is a very beneficial opportunity for single people, like myself, to jump up and take advantage of this opportunity while it is available. I love having my own space and hope for my space to grow within the coming years.”
